SPACE stands for Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions and is a parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety, OCD, and related problems. Developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center, SPACE is designed to focus on parents, empowering them to help their children overcome anxiety. At Weaver and Associates, our therapists are trained by Dr. Lebowitz and are among the leading SPACE providers in the DMV area.
Parents who participate in SPACE learn two main changes: to respond more supportively to their anxious child and to reduce the accommodations they have been making to their child's symptoms. This unique approach allows parents to help their children without needing to make the child change.
